Our Perfect Angels: Resources to Heal Your Broken Heart

If you are like me, you have a perfect angel in heaven. Maybe you have multiple. My heart goes out to you. I understand your pain. I understand your sorrow. I understand the love. I understand the sadness. I understand the need for answers, and I understand the quest for hope.

I believe there is no sorrow that can even begin to be compared to that of losing a child. At the same time, there is no sorrow that can be made as sweet and this is because of Jesus Christ.

As I’ve gone through the loss of my daughter Adlee I found a lot of peace and comfort from various resources. It is my hope, if you have experienced similar loss(es) to mine, you will also be able to find peace and your sorrow turned to joy.

A book I found really helpful was gifted to us and recommended to me by multiple friends. This book is called Gone Too Soon. You can find this book on Amazon. Gone Too Soon addresses the loss of infants, stillbirth, and unborn children at any stage. There are also chapters discussing the grief and pain a husband will feel, a wife will feel, and what grandparents and siblings may feel. It’s a great source for anyone.

I found a lot of strength from the knowledge I gained through deeper studies of the salvation of little children through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has a lot of great talks addressing this topic.

The Salvation of Little Children is a talk that was given by Elder Bruce R. McConkie in April of 1977. This talk is simply beautiful and soothes an aching soul. Here is just a preview of his talk:

Among all the glorious gospel verities given of God to his people there is scarcely a doctrine so sweet, so soul satisfying, and so soul sanctifying, as the one which proclaims—Little children shall be saved. They are alive in Christ and shall have eternal life. For them the family unit will continue, and the fulness of exaltation is theirs. No blessing shall be withheld. They shall rise in immortal glory, grow to full maturity, and live forever in the highest heaven of the celestial kingdom—all through the merits and mercy and grace of the Holy Messiah, all because of the atoning sacrifice of Him who died that we might live.

Joseph F. Smith, a past prophet during this dispensation, experienced much grief and sorrow as he lost multiple children. In a compilation of his teachings, there is a chapter called The Salvation of Little Children. This chapter discusses his loss and the beautiful testimony he gained which gave him comfort. Joseph F. Smith’s teachings cover the following topics:

Little children who pass away before they are accountable are redeemed.

After the resurrection, a child’s body will grow to match the stature of the spirit.

All is well with little children who pass away.

If we are faithful, we will be reunited with our children beyond the veil.

Trust me, you want to read what he had to say. This was, perhaps, one of the most comforting sources for me.

One more talk I enjoyed reading is called The Spirit World, Our Next Home by Dale C. Mouritsen. He shares an experience of Heber J. Grant’s. In this talk, he addresses the resurrection of little children and the opportunity us parents will have to raise those children in the next life.

There are also countless scriptures in The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ and The Bible which teach about the salvation of little children.

But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 19:14

And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:3

For behold that all little children are alive in Christ, and also all they that are without the law. For the power of redemption cometh on all them that have no law; wherefore, he that is not condemned, or he that is under no condemnation, cannot repent; and unto such baptism availeth nothing.

Moroni 8:22

And even if it were possible that little children could sin they could not be saved; but I say unto you they are blessed; for behold, as in Adam, or by nature, they fall, even so the blood of Christ atoneth for their sins.

Mosiah 3:16

And I also beheld that all children who die before they arrive at the years of accountability are saved in the celestial kingdom of heaven.

Doctrine and Covenants 137:10

We will see our children again. We will have the opportunity to raise our children. Our children are saved through Christ. Our children will remain forever perfect and automatically gain salvation into the Celestial Kingdom — the very kingdom of God. They are truly our perfect angels.
